Purpose and Overview
Using heart failure as a premise, profound scientific discovery now redefines the burden and potentially alleviates a previously vexing chronic disease state. Starting from a > 100 yr historical perspective, the journey from empiric reasoning and dour outcomes is now characterized by remarkable discovery, potentially spectacular outcomes and transformative future opportunities.

UT Southwestern faculty, fellows, residents and medical students, community physicians, nurse clinicians, physician assistants and nurses.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, the participant should be able to:
- Review the history of heart failure and the legion of compelling randomized controlled clinical trials
- Appreciate the potential to expunge "failure" from the HF lexicon and establish the clear potential for strikingly better clinical outcomes than ever before.
- Explore the intersection of important new science yielding provocative new therapies including gene therapy, inflammatory signaling and targeted anti-fibrotic interventions.
